Preparation for mid module reviews
For our mid module presentation I had the job of collecting all the research and projects we had seen that contributed to the creation of our idea so far.
This included:
From these videos we got the idea to bring out the more childlike or playful side of adults that as they have grown up have been encouraged to disown. We thought we would do this by creating some kind of obstacle course or game.
If the activity is made fun the person will feel more inclined to do something positive either for themselves or the environment, making it a powerful tool for behaviour modification. Therefore the creators can better get their message across if the activity is made enjoyable.
Graffiti Nature- Team Lab

With this interactive experience the visitors had the opportunity to become part of the installation. We liked the idea of using sensory projectors and how the images responded to movement. We thought we could use this type of technology to build a game within a public space as it doesn't take up a lot of space and can be easily transported to different locations.
This included:
The Fun Theory- Volkswagen
For this invention Volkswagen turned a bottle bank into an arcade game. The faster you put the bottles into the indicated holes the more points you would get.
This clever transformation plays on people's competitive side, creating a compelling way to get more people to recycle. What might seem a relatively mundane task has been made more enjoyable whilst also benefitting the environment.
This turned out to be one of our main sources of inspiration for the final concept.
For this project the creators connected interactive piano keys to the stairs of the underground to see how many people would use the stairs in stead of the escalators. Because there was something playful and unusual about these stairs, naturally human curiosity took over convenience and more people ended up taking this more energetic route.

George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces- Building a life sized toy
tree house.
Based in the Sussex woods this 6 metre tall open air tree house is located in an environment where it looks like it belongs.
A project based on fun that made the presenter’s childhood dream of living inside a toy tree house a reality.
They have created a playful and fun structure that adults can also explore and feel a sense of nostalgia as they are allowed to be a kid again.
