Applying Technology

Image
I was absent this week but my group updated me on what they had learnt and told me about the different technologies that we could apply to our narrative experience. With this piece of technology the group used conductive paint to create buttons for a circuit that was then connected to wires. When the buttons were pressed the circuit initiated the creation of different sounds. From this workshop and the information we gathered from the previous week's lecture we decided that we wanted to include some sort of game within our design so that the viewers/participants can engage more closely with our topic.

Lecture on digital media

In this lecture we learnt about different examples of how digital media has been used to enhance narrative experiences and discovered that whilst designing our own we don't have to be limited by the physical space available as there is also the possibility of exploring the use of virtual space. Possible digital media options to include: 3D animation Game development Virtual reality Augmented reality With a game the participant is controlling the narrative but with a film or video embedded in the experience, the viewer is watching a fixed narrative controlled by the makers of the environment. Virtual reality With a film or prepared visual sequence, there will inevitably be a lack of interaction from the person experiencing the environment whereas a game presents them with a challenge, forcing them to physically and/or cognitively engage with the topic. However with things like video games the player can become so emerged in the virtual world that they become le...
